Are you interested to work in a sustainable food chain for future generations? And curious how regenerative agriculture can play a role in this? Then we need you!
Agrifirm’s vision is to work daily on a responsible food chain for future generations. We want to ensure that we can continue to offer affordable, healthy, and sustainable food to everyone. Agrifirm, therefore, supplies high-quality products such as animal feed, products for the cultivation of crops, and professional advice.
Agrifirm was founded approximately 120 years ago in the Netherlands and is now a leading agricultural cooperative with an international network of subsidiaries located in 16 countries in Europe, South America, and Asia and a worldwide distribution network. The head office is located in Apeldoorn, and with more than 3,000 committed employees, Agrifirm works daily on a healthy future for farmers and society.
Agrifirm is exploring the opportunities and limitations of regenerative agriculture in the Netherlands, and we work with farmers in practical field trials.
In the Netherlands, most farmers are working to reduce the use of crop protection products, and we also see initiatives such as reduced tillage. But Agrifirm wants to think further within this pilot, make ambitious steps, and highlight the importance of soil health.
Before a farmer can fully apply regenerative agriculture, there are still challenges, especially at the monitoring level, to develop the right methodology and make it available for practice before it can be implemented.
If Agrifirm wants to make regenerative a success, it is important that the farmers who want to switch in the future have access to relevant data to help them make in-field choices. In your internship, you will find out and define how this works in practice.
You will work in an innovation team of in total 8 people. We are working through a start-up method on the development of regenerative agriculture and Agrifirm’s future offer to farmers and growers. Your workplace is flexible, we work from home, our head office in Apeldoorn, or on our Ateljee, our innovation space on the WUR campus. In the Ateljee, the team meets every week to work together. The regenerative cultivation specialist is your internship supervisor.
To get a solid understanding of regenerative agriculture, the parameters will be monitored in the different fields throughout the Netherlands bi-weekly. In the internship, you will work with selected monitoring methods and are expected to have an eagerness to make those work, identify relevant equipment if required
The main part of your internship will be field work to realize the monitoring of the defined parameters in the field trials. The pilot farmers are located in several regions of the Netherlands, meaning traveling by car is part of the internship. Planning skills are a must.
During the internship, you are expected to process the data which is gathered during the field trials and conduct analysis.
